Take me back to December 18, 1990

Let's take a walk down memory lane.

It is Tuesday, December 18, 1990. Babies who are born today will have the star sign Sagittarius. The Christmas season of 1990 is in full swing. People are putting up their decorations and festive songs are playing on the radio.

In America, the song "Because I Love You" by Stevie B is at the top of the singles charts, while "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice is the number-one song in the UK. George W. Bush Snr. is the President of the United States, and the movie Child's Play 2 is at the top of the box office. John Major is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Texting is not a thing yet. Instead, people are using landline phones and pagers. Furthermore, most people have never heard of the Internet. In fashion, many of the trends from the late 80s are still popular. Colored tights, denim overalls, leotards, flannel shirts and shoulder pads are all fashionable at the moment. It's 1990, so the airwaves are being dominated by music artists such as Sinéad O'Connor, Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson, Vanilla Ice, Mariah Carey, Stevie B, Madonna and MC Hammer.

A civil war has broken out in the African nation of Rwanda. Iraqi forces are continuing to occupy Kuwait following an invasion at the start of August. The UN Security Council has given Iraq a deadline to withdraw from the country by the 15th of January. If Iraqi forces fail to withdraw on time, "all necessary means" will be used to push them out. Anyone driving past a movie theater will see "Edward Scissorhands" listed on the signage out front.

In celebrity news, British rock singer Rod Stewart and supermodel Rachel Hunter have been married in Beverly Hills. In Europe, the Soviet Union is continuing to dissolve. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as John Bardeen, Miles Davis, and Freddie Mercury would all still be alive.

On TV, people are watching popular shows such as "Who's the Boss?", "In the Heat of the Night", "Quantum Leap", and "One Foot in the Grave". Meanwhile, gamers are playing titles such as "Duck Hunt", "Golden Axe", "Herzog Zwei", and "Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse". Children and teenagers are watching television shows such as "Garfield and Friends", "Noozles", "Saved by the Bell", and "The Simpsons".

Popular toys at the moment include Pogo ball / Lolo ball, Mr Frosty, the Nintendo Entertainment System, and Fear Street books.
