Discussion about this date:

Evan Tackett

The day Cartoon Network was ruined because CN Real launched on this day. I mean, who in the hell thinks it's a good idea to put live-action shows on a channel dedicated to cartoons? That's a stupid idea. That block was so bad, I stopped watching Cartoon Network after that block came out for almost a year, other than watching new episodes of 6teen and Total Drama. Thank God that block shut down in May 2010, and I got back to watching Cartoon Network full time and started watching Adventure Time around that time. And Cartoon Network became good again until 2013, when Teen Titans Go came out.

Take me back to June 17, 2009

Let's take a walk down memory lane.

The date is June 17, 2009, and it's a Wednesday. Babies who are born today will have the star sign Gemini. It is "Hump Day", so many are beginning to think about the weekend ahead.

The summer of 2009 is in full swing. The weather is warm, and the evenings are brighter than usual. Most schools and colleges are now finished until August or September. In America, the song "Boom Boom Pow" by The Black Eyed Peas is at the top of the singles charts, while "When Love Takes Over" by David Guetta ft Kelly Rowland is the number-one song in the UK. Barack Obama is the President of the United States, and the movie The Hangover is at the top of the box office.

Gordon Brown is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. On television, people are watching popular shows such as "America's Next Top Model", "How I Met Your Mother", "The Big Bang Theory", and "Keeping Up with the Kardashians". Meanwhile, in technology news, more and more people are beginning to use the Internet on their phones. This transition towards mobile Internet has been aided by the recent roll-out of faster 3G networks and the introduction of larger touchscreen phones.

A growing social network called Facebook is beginning to steal users away from MySpace and Bebo. Video rental stores such as Blockbuster are struggling to compete with online streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. A music genre called Dubstep has started to go mainstream.

It's 2009, so the music charts are filled with artists such as The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Flo Rida, Taylor Swift and T.I. In Iran, the "Green Revolution" is taking place, as protests and violence break out following the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, Billy Mays, and Steve McNair would all still be alive.

People are playing video games such as "Fable II", "Call of Duty: World at War", "Killzone 2", and "Pokémon Platinum". Children and teenagers are watching television shows such as "Caillou", "The Fairly OddParents", "LazyTown", and "Ben 10". Children are playing with toys such as Bionicle LEGO, Roboraptor, the PlayStation 3, and Iggle Piggle.
