The Men in Black cartoon was one of my favorite shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I couldn't wait to get home from school and watch it 😢

Take me back to October 11, 1997

Ready for a walk down memory lane?

The date is October 11, 1997, and it's a Saturday. Anyone born today will have the star sign Libra. People are currently enjoying their weekend.

The summer is long gone. Temperatures have become much cooler, and the evenings are beginning to get darker. There is a fresh, earthy scent in the air, and fallen leaves have carpeted driveways, lawns, pathways, and sidewalks. The song "Candle In The Wind 1997" by Elton John is at the top of the music charts in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Bill Clinton is the President of the United States, and the movie Kiss the Girls is at the top of the box office. Tony Blair is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. On television, people are watching popular shows such as "Home Improvement", "Baywatch", "Beavis and Butt-Head", and "Friends".

A new form of communication called "text messaging" is starting to become more widespread. However, it can only be done if both the sender and the receiver are on the same cell network. Meanwhile, a global system called "the Internet" is also starting to take off. Each day, more and more people are learning how to send emails and browse "websites" on the World Wide Web by connecting their IBM computers to noisy dial-up modems. The CD is quickly becoming the dominant format for music, and people are buying portable players such as the "Discman". Consequently, sales of cassette tapes are continuing to decline.

In fashion, bright and metallic colors are all the rage—a big change from the darker "grunge" colors of the early 1990s. Women are wearing maxi skirts, bell bottoms, knee boots, crop tops, tube tops, slip dresses, maxi coats, and platform shoes. Meanwhile, a lot of men have ditched their grunge and skater clothes in favor of a "dress casual" look. They are also beginning to cut their hair shorter. It's 1997, so radio stations are being dominated by the likes of Toni Braxton, the Spice Girls, Puff Daddy, No Doubt, Hanson and Elton John. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Chris Farley, Sonny Bono, Fat Pat, and Rob Pilatus would all still be alive.

People are playing video games such as "Theme Park", "Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain", "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter", and "Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee". Kids and teenagers are watching TV shows such as "Rugrats", "Living Single", "In the House", and "Daria". Children are playing with toys such as Screwball Scramble, Dear Diary, the Tamagotchi, and the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
