Wow! StumbleUpon. That takes me back to the 2000s, lol. That and Digg were my favorite back then.

StumbleUpon was the last great effort to find awesome and unique content; they eventually sold out to the algorithms and made a new site called “mixd” which is terrible. Just a Pinterest version of spam.

I often think of StumbleUpon (which my friends and I really enjoyed using around 2010.) from time to time. It was enjoyable clicking a button and being taken to a random page on the Internet: a funny video, a deep dive on World War II, a quirky page devoted to someone's pet tarantula. The variety of topics and experiences you would encounter were much broader than what you'd see today, where most content follows the same patterns to achieve success for its respective platform. StumbleUpon could not be successful today.

24, Stumbleupon and Afroman... Three things that I forgot about. Fans of the show used to set up fake Bebo profiles that role-played the various characters. I saw a few pretending to be Jack Bauer lol.

I'm 27. I remember the excitement of seeing older family members discovering things while surfing StumbleUpon, when information was scarcer and algorithms weren’t so overwhelming on the web. Now, with apps like Instagram, all you need to do is scroll, and the algorithm takes care of the rest. It feels like my brain isn’t working at all, and I think this is a big problem in today’s world.

I found a lot of interesting sites on StumbleUpon in the mid/late 2000s which includes a website that is still going to this day and its killer Reddit. Surprised to find out it was registered the very same day as the premiere of 24.

StumbleUpon is how I found a website for a video game I am a fan of, and after several years I decided to check and see if that site was still active. It is still active despite all the technological changes since StumbleUpon's hayday in the 2000s.

StumbleUpon used to be great for finding new stuff, though that has been dead for years, it would blow the minds of younger generations on social media if they stumbled upon (no pun intended.) it.
