In the pre-social media world, the Britney Spears and Madonna kiss at the VMAs that year was one of those talked-about incidents on the Internet message boards, and I am sure it would have broken the social media handles had they already existed back then.

Does anyone else have a feeling that Britney and Madonna's kiss at the VMAs would have broken social media had it been around a few years earlier?

Take me back to August 28, 2003

Let's go back to the 2000s.

It is Thursday, August 28, 2003. Babies who are born today will have the star sign Virgo. The summer of 2003 is coming to an end and fall is just around the corner.

Labor Day weekend is a few days away, which means that many Americans are planning barbecues and other social gatherings. In America, the song "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce is at the top of the singles charts, while "Breathe" by Blu Cantrell is the number-one song in the UK. George W. Bush Jnr. is the President of the United States, and the movie Freddy Vs. Jason is at the top of the box office.

Tony Blair is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. In technology news, more and more people are beginning to gain access to the Internet. Internet speeds are increasing and MP3 sharing is beginning to threaten the existence of music stores. People are using a software program called LimeWire to share music, software, and videos. Unfortunately, it is also a haven for computer viruses.

Smartphones don't exist yet. There are no Androids or iPhones. Cameras on phones are quickly becoming the norm. However, the photographs that they take are still lacking in quality. It's 2003, so the music charts are being dominated by the likes of 50 Cent, R. Kelly, Sean Paul, 3 Doors Down, Nelly, Evanescence, Chingy and Beyonce.

Internet users are using MSN Messenger and AIM to chat with each other online. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Charles Bronson, John Ritter, Johnny Cash, and Robert Kardashian would all still be alive. On TV, people are watching popular shows such as "Futurama", "Becoming", "Without a Trace", and "The O.C.".

Meanwhile, gamers are playing titles such as "Kingdom Hearts", "Medieval: Total War", "Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven", and "Unreal Tournament 2003". Kids and teenagers are watching TV shows such as "The Wild Thornberrys", "The Powerpuff Girls", "Little Bill", and "Grounded for Life". Popular toys at the moment include What's Her Face (doll), the Xbox, Chicken Dance Elmo, and Bratz Stylin' Salon 'N' Spa.
