I went with a friend and their family (who were going to celebrate the holiday the following weekend and were going to deliver me a mug.) to see The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and their younger siblings went with their grandma to see the Steve Martin version of Cheaper by the Dozen.
All this happened after witnessing some family drama (just the typical political debate of the era and also over another family member's lifestyle) that had tensions boiling on Christmas Eve before reaching a boiling point that morning.
My friend's family invited me to go with them until things cooled down at home, which unfortunately didn't, and this Christmas is one of the reasons why older members of my family won't see each other.
