How old is the PlayStation 5?

The PlayStation 5 is 2 years old.

The console was released worldwide on November 12, 2020.

If you thought that the PS5 was younger, then it's probably because its launch has been plagued by supply issues.

For example, I didn't get my hands on one until the end of August, 2021, which was nine months after the release. A friend of mine only managed to buy one in March of 2022.

These supply problems were caused by a shortage of computer chips, which affected multiple industries.

To make a long story short, the pandemic disrupted supply lines. There was also a surge in demand for electronic goods, which complicated things even further.

All of this created a situation in which chip makers had to ramp things up and catch up to the demand.

Fortunately, it appears as though the semiconductor shortage will be alleviated in 2022. This means that the PS5 will probably become much easier to buy over the next few months (especially seeing as most hardcore gamers have purchased one by now).
