Take me back to September 28, 1993

Let's go back to the nineties.

It is Tuesday, September 28, 1993. Babies who are born today will have the star sign Libra. Schools and colleges are starting again, and fall has officially arrived. As a result, temperatures are beginning to cool, and trees are starting to shed their leaves.

The earthy smells of autumn have started to fill the air. In America, the song "Dream Lover" by Mariah Carey is at the top of the singles charts, while "Boom Shake The Room" by Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince is the number-one song in the UK. Bill Clinton is the President of the United States, and the movie The Good Son is at the top of the box office.

John Major is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Texting is not a thing yet. Instead, people are using landline phones and pagers. Furthermore, most people have never heard of the Internet. In fashion, many of the trends from the late 1980s are still in vogue. Colored tights, denim overalls, leotards, flannel shirts, and shoulder pads are all fashionable at the moment. Grunge fashion has also become mainstream, popularizing band t-shirts, ripped jeans, mom jeans, and Doc Martens.

A war is continuing to rage in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Meanwhile, in technology news, a relatively new storage format called the CD is beginning to outpace the regular cassette tape in music sales. The disc-based format gives listeners the ability to skip between songs instead of having to manually rewind and forward. A playing discs game called "Pogs" is currently spreading in popularity throughout the world.

It's 1993, so radio stations are being dominated by the likes of Meat Loaf, UB40, Snow, Haddaway, Whitney Houston, Take That, Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey. In television news, a new children's show called the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" has recently made its debut. On NBC, the network has started airing a new sitcom called Frasier. The show, which is a spin-off of Cheers, follows the life of psychiatrist Frasier Crane as he returns to live in Seattle.

In Alabama, 47 people have tragically lost their lives after an Amtrak train derailed on the Big Bayou Canot Bridge near the city of Mobile. A new teen sitcom called "Boy Meets World" has made its debut on ABC. The new show chronicles the everyday life of Philadelphia student Cory Matthews. Meanwhile, Chuck Norris' new show "Walker, Texas Ranger" has also started showing on CBS. In Russia, the possibility of a civil war is looming after President Boris Yeltsin recently declared that the Supreme Soviet is dissolved. In response, the Russian parliament has moved to impeach Yeltsin and Vice President Alexander Rutskoy has assumed the powers of acting President of Russia. Yeltsin, who remains resolute, has cut off power and the phone service to the Russian parliament. Anti-Yeltsin protesters are now clashing with special police on the streets and members of parliament have boarded themselves inside the building.

If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Vincent Price, River Phoenix, Frank Zappa, and Charizma would all still be alive. On TV, people are watching popular shows such as "Matlock", "Step by Step", "Mad About You", and "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman". Meanwhile, gamers are playing titles such as "Paperboy", "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", "Star Fox", and "Mortal Kombat II".

Kids and teenagers are watching TV shows such as "Garfield and Friends", "Dink, the Little Dinosaur", "In Living Color", and "Living Single". Popular toys at the moment include the Game Boy, Polly Pocket, Super Soaker (water gun), and Nerf Blaster.
