Have to admit, my friend still has an unopened Sega Dreamcast that they are keeping until their descendants take it to the Antiques Roadshow or some form of it, or they can auction it off for charity.

9/9/99, The day Sega gave us their grand finale... The Dreamcast. So sad, I miss that console so much. Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi and NBA 2K (the first ever NBA 2K). The best they gave us, now it's gone!

Seeing the North American Dreamcast makes me feel a little old as a friend of mine got one for their birthday the following month and they still have it put away safely somewhere.

Sadly, this console had too much of an uphill battle. The upcoming PS2 had an in-built DVD player, and by 1999, Sony already had legions of PS1 fans who were eager to upgrade. At the time, Sega's reputation was also pretty damaged due to the Sega Saturn, the Genesis Nomad, and the Sega CD flopping. Another factor was Sony's huge advertising budget. The company was willing to release the console at a loss just to gain market share and edge out its competitors. Sega, on the other hand, couldn't afford to do the same.
