Discussion about this date:

ASop

Felipe Maximino Santos (24) disappeared in Naples, Florida, on this day after he was arrested for reckless driving by a Collier County sheriff's deputy named Corporal Steven Henry Calkins. Calkins claimed that he changed his mind and decided not to bring Santos to jail while they were en route and that he left him at a Circle K convenience store instead.

Four months later, in January 2004, Calkins picked up Terrance Deon Williams (27). Calkins said that Williams was experiencing car problems and that he gave him a ride to a Circle K store.

Both Williams and Santos remain missing to this day.

Take me back to October 1, 2003

Let's take a stroll down memory lane.

The date is October 1, 2003, and it's a Wednesday. Anyone born today will have the star sign Libra. It is "Hump Day", so many are beginning to think about the weekend ahead.

The summer is long gone. Temperatures have become much cooler, and the evenings are beginning to get darker. There is a fresh, earthy scent in the air, and fallen leaves have carpeted driveways, lawns, pathways, and sidewalks. In America, the song "Baby Boy" by Beyonce is at the top of the singles charts, while "Where Is The Love" by The Black Eyed Peas is the number-one song in the UK.

George W. Bush Jnr. is the President of the United States, and the movie The Rundown is at the top of the box office. Tony Blair is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. On television, people are watching popular shows such as "Frasier", "Friends", "JAG", and "MythBusters".

In technology news, more and more people are beginning to gain access to the Internet. Internet speeds are increasing and MP3 sharing is beginning to threaten the existence of music stores. People are using a software program called LimeWire to share music, software, and videos. Unfortunately, it is also a haven for computer viruses. Smartphones don't exist yet. There are no Androids or iPhones.

Cameras on phones are quickly becoming the norm. However, the photographs that they take are still lacking in quality. It's 2003, so the music charts are being dominated by the likes of 50 Cent, R. Kelly, Sean Paul, 3 Doors Down, Nelly, Evanescence, Chingy and Beyonce. Internet users are using MSN Messenger and AIM to chat with each other online.

A flash animation of badgers singing "badger, badger, badger" has become a viral hit on the Internet. The animation, which loops indefinitely, was published by British animator Jonti Picking in September 2003. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Crash Holly, Jonathan Brandis, Soulja Slim, and Pat Tillman would all still be alive. People are playing video games such as "Unreal Tournament 2003", "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4", "Ratchet & Clank", and "Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow".

Kids and teenagers are watching TV shows such as "Dexter's Laboratory", "CatDog", "The Powerpuff Girls", and "The Fairly OddParents". Children are playing with toys such as Gogo's Crazy Bones, Betty Spaghetty (doll), Pixter drawing tablet, and Playmobil Airport.
