It is hard to believe it has been 13 years since this day. I remember watching TV and seeing a news ticker announce Farrah's death and hearing about Michael's death right after getting off work and picking up supper at a now-defunct family-owned restaurant.

I remember all of the reactions to his death, and his funeral. It's hard to believe that it's been 13 years.

Worst day of 2009. Why? Because Michael Jackson died. I first heard about this on the news that day and I was sad when I seen that.

The death of Farrah Fawcett had been imminent for quite some time as she had been battling an aggressive form of cancer (I still remember seeing video clips of that NBC special that aired a few weeks before this date). And Michael Jackson's was such a shock that the news of his passing broke the internet in the early days of social media.

A friend's mom was taking us back home after a day at the city pool when we heard the news about his passing on the radio, which then switched to a set list of his music from his heyday. It was a shock to my friend's mom, as she had heard that he was planning on a concert residency in the UK.

I was just a few days away from celebrating my 16th birthday. At that time, I was working at a small family-owned restaurant, diligently washing dishes as part of my job. It was just an ordinary day until I caught the shocking news on a cable channel: the untimely passing of the legendary Michael Jackson. While earlier that same day, I had come across the news about Farrah Fawcett's death while trying to find a lost password email from a social media site on Yahoo.

Wow, 15 years. I saw it on CNN while I was on vacation in Europe. I woke my girlfriend up to tell her the news. She wasn't too happy about that lol.

I found out about Michael Jackson's passing through a Breaking News banner on Yahoo! while I was logging on to check my email for information about a school trip I was going to be taking in July.

Take me back to June 25, 2009

Let's go back to the 2000s.

The date is June 25, 2009, and it's a Thursday. Babies who are born today will have the star sign Cancer. The summer of 2009 is in full swing. The weather is warm, and the evenings are brighter than usual. Most schools and colleges are now finished until August or September.

In America, the song "Boom Boom Pow" by The Black Eyed Peas is at the top of the singles charts, while "Bulletproof" by La Roux is the number-one song in the UK. Barack Obama is the President of the United States, and the movie The Proposal is at the top of the box office. Gordon Brown is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

On television, people are watching popular shows such as "One Tree Hill", "The Hills", "Sons of Anarchy", and "Glee". Meanwhile, in technology news, more and more people are beginning to use the Internet on their phones. This transition towards mobile Internet has been aided by the recent roll-out of faster 3G networks and the introduction of larger touchscreen phones. A growing social network called Facebook is beginning to steal users away from MySpace and Bebo.

Video rental stores such as Blockbuster are struggling to compete with online streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. A music genre called Dubstep has started to go mainstream. It's 2009, so the music charts are filled with artists such as The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Flo Rida, Taylor Swift and T.I.

In Iran, the "Green Revolution" is taking place, as protests and violence break out following the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The world is in shock after the sudden death of pop star Michael Jackson. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Billy Mays, Steve McNair, DJ AM, and Patrick Swayze would all still be alive.

People are playing video games such as "Mafia Wars", "Spore", "Fallout 3", and "Call of Duty: World at War". Kids and teenagers are watching TV shows such as "Peppa Pig", "Postcards from Buster", "The Backyardigans", and "Go, Diego, Go!". Children are playing with toys such as the Xbox 360, Roboraptor, the PlayStation 3, and Kid-Tough Digital Camera.
