Discussion about this date:

I went to a nightclub called Territory on this day. There was a lot of Christmas cheer. Fairytale of New York was the final song of the night. Everyone was singing along to it with their arms around each other, and wishing each other a Merry Christmas. The nightclub closed one or two years later. The building has been vacant for nearly a decade. Nothing lasts forever I suppose.

Take me back to December 23, 2006

Let's take a walk down memory lane.

The date is December 23, 2006, and it's a Saturday. Babies who are born today will have the star sign Capricorn. The work week is over and Saturday has finally come, so people are spending time with their kids, going to bars, shopping, playing video games, and watching sports.

Christmas Day of 2006 is fast approaching and the excitement is building. Department stores are packed with Christmas shoppers, and people are meeting up with friends that they haven't seen in a while. In America, the song "Irreplaceable" by Beyonce is at the top of the singles charts, while "Patience" by Take That is the number-one song in the UK. George W. Bush Jnr. is the President of the United States, and the movie The Pursuit of Happyness is at the top of the box office.

Tony Blair is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. On television, people are watching popular shows such as "The O.C.", "Prison Break", "How I Met Your Mother", and "Dexter". People are using a software program called LimeWire to share music, software, and videos. Unfortunately, it is also a haven for computer viruses.

Smartphones don't exist yet. There are no Androids or iPhones. Cameras on phones have now become the norm. Furthermore, the quality of these cameras is continuing to increase with each new phone release. We are now entering an age where any event can be instantly photographed or recorded. Practically every teenager and adult has a MySpace or Bebo account.

It's 2006, so the music charts are being dominated by the likes of Daniel Powter, Sean Paul, Nelly Furtado, James Blunt, Gnarls Barkley, Shakira and Natasha Bedingfield. A rock music genre called "Emo" is extremely popular at the moment. The genre, which stands for "emotional hardcore", has created a subculture of "Emos" who dye their hair black and wear thick-framed glasses. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as James Brown, Gerald Ford, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Anna Nicole Smith would all still be alive.

People are playing video games such as "Tekken 5", "Psychonauts", "FIFA 07", and "Microsoft Flight Simulator X". Children and teenagers are watching television shows such as "As Told by Ginger", "One Tree Hill", "The Backyardigans", and "Everybody Hates Chris". Children are playing with toys such as Betty Spaghetty (doll), Baby Annabell, V. Smile TV Learning System, and the PlayStation 3.
