When did One Direction break up?

Boy band "One Direction" broke up more than 8 years ago.

On August 23, 2015, the pop group announced that they would be going on a "hiatus" in 2016 in order to focus on their solo projects.

In December of 2015, they made their last television performance together.

Although the band claimed that they were only taking a temporary break, this ultimately turned out to be false.

On January 13, 2016, it was reported that their "hiatus" was actually a permanent split and that One Direction had effectively broken up.

Originally, these media reports were denied by the band's representatives. However, by 2017, there was still no sign of the group getting back together.

By that stage, Niall, Liam, Harry and Louis had all embarked on their own solo careers.

At the start of 2018, it was reported that their touring company, Rollcall Touring Ltd, had been dissolved. This news put an end to any hopes that a reunion was just around the corner.
