Discussion about this date:

Evan Tackett

Hannah Montana came out on the Disney Channel on this day. I hate this show. This show is stupid. I never liked it when I was 11 years old. I remember when Hannah Montana was coming up next on Disney Channel, I would grab the remote and change the channel to Boomerang to watch Duck Dodgers, Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, and Pink Panther. That's what I did when I was 11 years old.

Hannah Montana was the start of the trend of 'kids wanting to be famous' shows on the kiddie networks that was around until about 2014. And at least Miley has escaped the child star curse and come to terms with the Mouse House again with that special for a new album on Disney+, while Emily Osment is doing a broadcast sitcom for at least another year or so.

Take me back to March 24, 2006

Let's take a walk down memory lane.

It is Friday, March 24, 2006. Babies who are born today will have the star sign Aries. People have "that Friday feeling" and are excited for the weekend.

Spring has arrived, and the days are starting to get longer. In America, the song "So Sick" by Ne-Yo is at the top of the singles charts, while "No Tomorrow" by Orson is the number-one song in the UK. George W. Bush Jnr. is the President of the United States, and the movie Inside Man is at the top of the box office.

Tony Blair is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. People are using a software program called LimeWire to share music, software, and videos. Unfortunately, it is also a haven for computer viruses. Smartphones don't exist yet. There are no Androids or iPhones.

Internet users are using MSN Messenger and AIM to chat with each other online. Cameras on phones have now become the norm. Furthermore, the quality of these cameras is continuing to increase with each new phone release. We are now entering an age where any event can be instantly photographed or recorded. Practically every teenager and adult has a MySpace or Bebo account.

It's 2006, so the music charts are being dominated by the likes of Daniel Powter, Sean Paul, Nelly Furtado, James Blunt, Gnarls Barkley, Shakira and Natasha Bedingfield. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Proof, Big Hawk, Charles Haughey, and Steve Irwin would all still be alive. On TV, people are watching popular shows such as "Charmed", "Futurama", "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", and "Battlestar Galactica".

Meanwhile, gamers are playing titles such as "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas", "Lego Star Wars: The Video Game", "Mario Kart DS", and "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter". Kids and teenagers are watching TV shows such as "Ed, Edd n Eddy", "LazyTown", "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide", and "Ben 10". Popular toys at the moment include VideoNow (portable player), Cosmolight Alien Eggs, V. Smile TV Learning System, and the PSP.
