Take me back to May 17, 2011

Let's take a walk down memory lane.

The date is May 17, 2011, and it's a Tuesday. Babies who are born today will have the star sign Taurus. The summer of 2011 has finally arrived. The weather has warmed up, and the evenings are brighter than usual. The school year is nearly finished.

In America, the song "E.T." by Katy Perry ft Kanye West is at the top of the singles charts, while "The Lazy Song" by Bruno Mars is the number-one song in the UK. Barack Obama is the President of the United States, and the movie Thor is at the top of the box office. David Cameron is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

On television, people are watching popular shows such as "Two and a Half Men", "Prison Break", "Mad Men", and "Sons of Anarchy". Video rental stores such as Blockbuster are continuing to close their doors at the moment. Sadly, it seems as though they will be unable to compete with online streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. People are using pre-made comics called "Rage Comics" to share funny and relatable experiences.

It's 2011, so the music charts are being dominated by artists such as Adele, Maroon 5, LMFAO, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Bruno Mars. The catchphrase "Every Day I'm Shufflin'" is being repeated and parodied following the success of LMAO's song "Party Rock Anthem". Anti-government protests are taking place in cities across Syria.

A civil war is raging on in Libya. Large battles are taking place between Colonel Gaddafi's government forces and Libyan rebels, who are being supported by NATO. There is a strange new fad called "planking", which involves a person lying face down in an unusual location. Internet users are making memes and jokes about May 21st, 2011, the date that evangelist Harold Camping has predicted will bring the "Rapture".

Gaming website Kotaku has just revealed that the next Call of Duty game will be called "Modern Warfare 3". Shortly after the leaks were publicized, four teaser trailers were uploaded by the official Call of Duty Youtube page. Azerbaijan have won the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Running Scared" by Ell & Nikki. The recent killing of wanted terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden at the start of this month is continuing to be a topic of discussion.

The European Union has agreed on a €78 billion rescue loan for Portugal. The game "L.A. Noire" has just been released. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Randy Savage, Margo Dydek, Ryan Dunn, and Peter Falk would all still be alive.

People are playing video games such as "Halo: Reach", "FIFA 11", "Dead Space 2", and "Total War: Shogun 2". Children and teenagers are watching television shows such as "The Fairly OddParents", "Phineas and Ferb", "Wizards of Waverly Place", and "Pretty Little Liars". Children are playing with toys such as the KidiZoom Camera, the iPad, Bakugan 7-in-1 Maxus Dragonoid, and Duck Hunter.
