Mr. Weatherman

My 13-year-old self prepared my recordable DVD player in my bedroom (I thought I was high tech!) to make sure the primetime airing of Bob Barker's last The Price Is Right would tape while I watched it. I connected it by S-Video to my DIRECTV receiver to squeeze out every bit of crisp 480i I could.

Though looking back, I could have watched the daytime airing but decided to wait until that night and make a personal event out of it. So many emotions ran through me watching the episode. I'm pretty sure a few tears came to my eyes during his final sign-off. What a moment in history that was, at least for me. Bittersweet memories!

Take me back to June 15, 2007

Ready for a walk down memory lane?

The date is June 15, 2007, and it's a Friday. Anyone born today will have the star sign Gemini. Many people have "that Friday feeling" and are looking forward to the weekend.

The summer of 2007 is in full swing. The weather is warm, and the evenings are brighter than usual. Most schools and colleges are now finished until August or September. The song "Umbrella" by Rihanna is at the top of the music charts in the United States and the United Kingdom. George W. Bush Jnr. is the President of the United States, and the movie Fantastic Four 2 is at the top of the box office.

Tony Blair is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. On television, people are watching popular shows such as "CSI: Miami", "America's Next Top Model", "Room Raiders", and "Eureka". Practically every teenager and adult has a MySpace or Bebo account.

A rock music genre called "Emo" is extremely popular at the moment. The genre, which stands for "emotional hardcore", has created a subculture of "Emos" who dye their hair black and wear thick-framed glasses. Meanwhile, in technology news, more and more people are beginning to use the Internet on their phones. This transition towards mobile Internet has been aided by the recent roll-out of faster 3G networks and the introduction of larger touchscreen phones. It's 2007, so the music charts are being dominated by the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Sean Kingston, Soulja Boy and Nelly Furtado.

If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Eddie Jamaal Griffin, Luciano Pavarotti, Colin McRae, and Sean Taylor would all still be alive. People are playing video games such as "Scarface: The World Is Yours", "Bully", "Wii Sports", and "God of War II". Kids and teenagers are watching TV shows such as "ChalkZone", "Maya & Miguel", "Johnny Test", and "Wonder Pets!".

Children are playing with toys such as VideoNow (portable player), 7-Eleven Slurpee Drink Maker, Amazing Amanda (doll), and Iggle Piggle.
