Discussion about this date:

I still remember the headlines in the months before and after this date about Miley Cyrus and how she would end up like Lindsay Lohan once Hannah Montana ended, but despite a few hiccups (ex: twerking on a then-future The Masked Singer judge at the 2013 VMAs), she has proved the naysayers wrong.

Take me back to January 16, 2011

Let's take a walk down memory lane.

It is Sunday, January 16, 2011. Babies who are born today will have the star sign Capricorn. People are currently enjoying their weekend. However, because it's a Sunday, some are dreading the days ahead.

The holiday season of 2010 seems like a distant memory. New year's resolutions are already being abandoned, and many are eagerly awaiting their first paycheck after Christmas In America, the song "Grenade" by Bruno Mars is at the top of the singles charts, while "What's My Name" by Rihanna ft Drake is the number-one song in the UK. Barack Obama is the President of the United States, and the movie The Green Hornet is at the top of the box office.

David Cameron is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Video rental stores such as Blockbuster are continuing to close their doors at the moment. Sadly, it seems as though they will be unable to compete with online streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. People are using pre-made comics called "Rage Comics" to share funny and relatable experiences.

People on the Internet are using the phrase "That Really Rustled My Jimmies" to express their annoyance at things. A wave of demonstrations and protests have been taking place across the Middle East, in what has become known as the "Arab Spring". It's 2011, so the music charts are being dominated by artists such as Adele, Maroon 5, LMFAO, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Bruno Mars.

A meme called "Inglip" is going viral on websites such as Reddit. Users are posting "commands" that they have received via CAPTCHA images. Lionel Messi has been awarded the 2010 FIFA Ballon d'Or, beating out Barcelona teammates Xavi and Andrés Iniesta. Following mass protests, Tunisian president Ben Ali has dissolved the government and fled the country. This has effectively ended Ali's 23 years in power.

If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Nate Dogg, Elizabeth Taylor, Randy Savage, and Margo Dydek would all still be alive. On TV, people are watching popular shows such as "Eureka", "Friday Night Lights", "Real Housewives of New York City", and "The Walking Dead". Meanwhile, gamers are playing titles such as "God of War III", "Alan Wake", "Halo: Reach", and "Fallout: New Vegas".

Children and teenagers are watching television shows such as "Horrid Henry", "Wizards of Waverly Place", "Team Umizoomi", and "Pretty Little Liars". Popular toys at the moment include the PlayStation 3, Pixos Super Studio, Laser Zero Gravity, and Rocky the Robot Truck.
